MEMBERS NEWS
This airbridge will allow Emirates to augment the volume of relief aid cargo and will be available to organizations based at the International Humanitarian City (IHC) - the world’s largest aid hub
Emirates Sky Cargo has partnered with IHC to send relief aid to Pakistan with over 50 weekly flights from Dubai. This endeavour will allow them to move live-saving shipments including food, pharmacy, and emergency relief items to five airports in Pakistan- Islamabad, Karachi, Peshawar, Lahore, and Sialkot.
All the humanitarian groups based at IHC, Dubai, can make use of this cargo capacity by Emirates free of charge for transporting humanitarian aid from Dubai to any of the above-mentioned airports in Pakistan. Following the explosion in Beirut in August 2020, Emirates increased its freighter operations to Lebanon to help the thousands of Beirut residents affected by the blasts. Presently, they are operating 53 cargo flights to Pakistan where the flood has killed over 1,200 people and rendered millions homeless.
The Group Chairman of Emirates has expressed their connection and commitment to Pakistan and talked about their plans to continue directing urgent aid to the country. To quote the Chairman of the Supreme Committee for the Supervision of IHC, "We are working with Emirates to respond to a devastating humanitarian crisis in Pakistan, where floods have caused unimaginable losses and damages. We are grateful for the long-standing support of Emirates to the IHC community and its honourable commitment to alleviate the suffering of the victims of these extraordinary floods. Together, we are proud to deliver this vital support to the people of Pakistan."
The Chinese authorities are investing $712 million for 1.7 billion square feet of air cargo infrastructure, a 32,300 square feet cold storage warehouse, a warehouse for dangerous goods, parking for 16 additional freighters, a huge customs inspection area, 101 shipping docks and a new cargo station that can handle 600,000 tons of cargo per year.
This new facility in Taulov, Southern Denmark will come with electrified outdoor and indoor equipment, with solar panels installed on the roof of the warehouse the excess energy from which will go into the grid.
As a part of the Black Sea transit deal's operation, over 60 ships and 1.5 million tonnes of food products have departed Ukraine.
This new shipping route will significantly enhance international trade connections and will help to boost the Scottish businesses by eliminating the frustrating transhipment delays.
Their direct connection with Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile will help to keep their company provide a fresh source of reliable capacity to a market where demand is already high.
SPECIAL
The purpose of shipping canals is to link the oceans, rivers, and lakes thereby
creating an alternative route for ships especially cargo vessels. These canals are
crucial for the container shipping industry since they shorten the routes across the
ocean networks, thereby reducing cargo’s transit time and regulating the marine
traffic internally within the nations.
There are over a hundred canals scattered around the globe, enabling easy
movement of sea freight daily. However, some of the canals have also come up as
the busiest shipping routes around the globe. Keep reading to get an idea of the
busiest maritime canals.
Created between 1859- 69, the Suez Canal connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea and lowers the voyage time of freight ships from the Atlantic to the Indian Ocean by 7,000 Km. This sea-level channel which is one of the most used marine routes globally was further widened in 2014 while an additional side channel was opened in 2016.
The Beijing-Hangzhou Canal aka the Grand Canal is one of the longest and oldest canals in the world and is also a World Heritage Site. It connects two important rivers in China- the Yangtze River and the Yellow River. The Grand Canal extends over 1,776 Km and even reaches a height of 42 m in the Shandong mountains. It connects North and South China thereby enormously contributing to the nation’s economy through daily transportation of freight.
This canal connects three important rivers in Western Europe- the Rhine, Main, and Danube. Also known as the Europa Canal, it forms a vital waterway linking the North Sea to the Black Sea via the Atlantic Ocean. Although it was created back in 1938, several extensions have been added to this canal over the years allowing it to accommodate barges carrying up to 2,424 tonnes of freight.
This is perhaps one of the most vital waterways on the planet that connects the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean through the isthmus of Panama- a narrow strip of land between the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The Panama Canal serves over 144 routes to more than 160 countries. On average around 14,000 transits are made through the canal every year. This canal allows ships crossing from the Pacific to the Atlantic Ocean and vice versa to save around 15,000 Km. Ships moving between the East and West Coast of the Americas get to save 6,500 km. The total time that ships can save by using this canal is close to 22 days.
This 50-mile canal connecting the city of Houston and the Gulf of Mexico is one of the most important waterways in the USA. Because of this canal, the Port of Houston has emerged as one of the largest international ports. This canal can accommodate a considerable volume of inland barge traffic. Moreover, the recent dredging and deepening activities are further helping to augment the utility of this waterway.
This 98 Km long canal connecting the North Sea and the Baltic Sea allows the vessel to circumvent the long and unsafe route of the Jutland Peninsula thus helping to save around 250 nautical miles. Presently, over 250 cargo ships from all around the world pass through this canal every day. Considered to be one of the busiest waterways in Europe, the Kiel Canal passes through the Schleswig-Holstein province in Germany.
