Why Attending in Person Still Wins in Logistics Networking
Dear members,
Dear members,
Welcome to the March edition of The Cooperative Logistics Network’s quarterly newsletters. As we move closer to our Annual Meeting, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what makes this gathering so important for all of us at The Coop.
In an industry that increasingly relies on digital tools and remote coordination, the value of meeting in person has never been clearer. This is something we explore in this edition’s featured blog, “Why Attending in Person Still Wins in Logistics Networking.” The article highlights a simple truth: while technology keeps our operations running, it is face-to-face interaction that builds the trust behind successful, long-term partnerships. Our Annual Meeting is designed around this idea, giving you the opportunity to connect directly with reliable partners, strengthen existing relationships, and open the door to new business opportunities.
This newsletter brings together key updates and insights from across the logistics sector. You will find a curated selection of headline news shaping our industry, along with a closer look at one of the most pressing current developments, rising tensions in the Middle East and their impact on global shipping. As highlighted in the sector feature, increasing attacks on commercial vessels are not only disrupting key trade routes but also placing thousands of seafarers at risk. It is a reminder of how quickly external factors can influence our operations and why staying informed is essential.
In addition, we have included links to recently published blogs covering important industry topics, as well as a roundup of member news from the past three months. These updates reflect the ongoing activity, growth, and collaboration within our network, and they are always worth exploring not only to stay informed, but also to identify new opportunities for cooperation.
I encourage you to take the time to go through this edition in full. Whether it is preparing for the Annual Meeting, gaining insights from industry developments, or learning more about your fellow members’ achievements, each section has been designed to keep you connected and informed.
I look forward to seeing many of you in person very soon.
Kind regards,
Antonio Torres
President and Founder - The Cooperative Logistics Network
In an industry that runs on coordination, trust, and timing, relationships are everything. Over the past few years, digital tools have made it easier than ever to connect across borders. Emails, video calls, and platforms have become part of everyday operations. Yet when it comes to building strong, reliable partnerships in logistics, face-to-face interaction still holds a clear advantage. This is exactly why events like the Annual Meeting of The Cooperative Logistics Network continue to play such a critical role.
There is no denying the efficiency of digital communication. You can reach partners instantly, share documents in seconds, and manage operations across time zones with ease. But efficiency doesn’t always translate into depth. A video call can help you discuss rates or shipments, but it rarely builds the kind of trust needed for long-term collaboration. In logistics, where your reputation is tied to your partners’ performance, that trust is non-negotiable.
Meeting someone in person adds context. You read body language, understand communication styles, and get a clearer sense of how they operate. These subtle cues often make the difference between a transactional contact and a dependable partner.
The Annual Meetings organised by The Cooperative Logistics Network are designed around this very principle. With pre-scheduled one-to-one meetings, members sit down with carefully selected partners who match their business needs. These are not casual introductions. They are focused conversations where both sides come prepared to explore real opportunities, routes, services, and potential collaborations.
What makes these interactions powerful is the environment. When you’re in the same room, discussions move faster, decisions feel more immediate, and agreements carry more weight. A handshake at the end of a meeting often seals what dozens of emails cannot.
Trust in logistics isn’t built overnight. It develops through consistent communication, reliability, and shared understanding. Meeting in person accelerates this process.
At The Coop’s Annual Meeting, members build familiarity. Conversations extend beyond formal meetings into networking sessions, dinners, and informal moments. These interactions create a stronger personal connection, which naturally translates into smoother professional collaboration.
When challenges arise, as they inevitably do in logistics, you are far more likely to work through them effectively with someone you know personally.
The real value of attending in person becomes clear after the event. Partnerships formed during these meetings often lead to increased shipment volumes, new trade lanes, and long-term agency agreements. Members return not just with contacts, but with actionable opportunities. The clarity established during face-to-face discussions reduces misunderstandings and shortens the time needed to move from conversation to execution. In a competitive industry, this kind of momentum is invaluable.
Digital tools will continue to support and streamline logistics operations. They are essential, and they are here to stay. But they work best when built on a foundation of strong human relationships. That’s where in-person networking continues to win.
The Cooperative Logistics Network’s Annual Meeting brings this into focus, reminding members that behind every shipment, every transaction, and every successful partnership, there are people. And when those people meet, connect, and build trust in person, the results speak for themselves.

Industry calls for urgent action as attacks on commercial vessels increase, threatening crew safety and disrupting global shipping routes

Around 20,000 seafarers operating in the Middle East are facing an increasingly dangerous and uncertain security environment as regional conflict intensifies, according to the World Shipping Council (WSC). The warning comes amid a series of attacks on commercial vessels, including a container ship struck overnight.
WSC President and CEO Joe Kramek highlighted the human cost of the conflict, noting that several seafarers have already lost their lives. “Seafarers are not part of this conflict, yet they are increasingly caught in its path. These are men and women simply doing their jobs at sea,” he stated.
The Council has echoed calls from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for immediate measures to safeguard crews and uphold freedom of navigation. “Seafarers must not be targets,” Kramek stressed, extending condolences to the families of those who have lost their lives and expressing concern for crews still operating under high-risk conditions.
Shipping lines are actively reassessing operations in the region, with some services being paused or rerouted based on evolving risk assessments. Safety remains the top priority, with carriers closely monitoring developments and adjusting routes to minimize exposure.
The Middle East’s strategic position along key global trade corridors means that ongoing disruption is likely to have far-reaching consequences. Industry experts warn of longer transit times, delays, and a gradual restructuring of shipping networks as companies adapt to maintain the flow of goods.
As tensions persist, the situation underscores the vulnerability of global supply chains and the critical need to protect those at the heart of maritime trade.
